when, not if

I know many of you are aware that Brad will most likely be going to Afghanistan by the end of the year. While it is difficult to think about Brad being gone for a year (or so), it was also expected. Remember, he did VOLUNTEER to enlist during a time of war. I have been preparing myself since 2001 when the military first came up as an option. Many tears have been shed between then and now and many more I am sure will be shed. But our faith is firm, our God is strong and He is always good. Neither of us doubt that last bit, He led us to this place ever so carefully, so that we don't have to deal with the nagging "did we do the wrong thing?" thoughts.

We do covet your prayers. Brad is at Fort Polk, LA this week for JRTC (joint readiness training center..or something close to that.) He should be back by Sunday am. He will be leaving again in October for some field exercises, but I am not sure on the dates for that. His plate will be full as they gear up to go. Getting ready for his job, but also trying to ready his family for his departure. Pray that we would both have clear minds so that we attend to the things that we need to and don't waste time on things that aren't so important.

The other night, Brad and I had one of "those" talks. The kind with what if's and tears. They are not fun chats, but they are crucial to being able to place this in His hands completely. After our talk, I came across this verse, which was comforting and challenging at the same time.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire, the flames will not set you ablaze. Isaiah 43:2
Notice it says when, not if?

Chocolate-faced Wilson

Great Grandma Lutz (Grandma G) has said a few times that Wilson looks like Brad and acts like me. These pictures confirm that...Wilson was eating a chocolate sucker from a rather pricey candy store. (We're not talking a Tootsie Pop here.) Brad thought the suckers looked somewhat unappealing, but Wilson and I love them!

We report. You decide.

There is some murmuring about whether or not our second son looks like a "Lutz." So, I thought I should post a picture of both boys at about the same age, wearing the same outfit. Wilson is the top picture. They are wearing the outfit that Brad wore home from the hospital when he was born. I think Wilson was about 3 weeks old and Walker was about 5 weeks old when I took the pictures. (You would think I could at least remember how old Walker was for sure!)

So, what do you think?

the new look

I guess the blog is a hit thus far. I was surprised to see comments! How exciting! So, you might notice I changed the template. I would like to take credit for the design, but they just give you choices. Maybe someday I will design our own...after many classes!!

Anyway, I am planning on making a list of some common Army acronyms so when we post something in Army language our civilian family & friends can make sense of it. (I thought that would be nice because the large majority of you are civilians!!)

Brad was in the field last night, he called this morning and was tired, but ok. I didn't hear a single "bump in the night." Which is pretty amazing for me! Brad's asthma wasn't bothering him. He started taking singulair over the weekend and hope that will do the trick for him. This afternoon I am going to Key Caller training so I can be a contact during deployment for the FRG. (Family Readiness Group). The FRG is mainly useful during deployments to keep the families informed of what is going on with their spouse. I would like to be as involved in it as possible. The key caller training will basically tell me not to get caught up in rumors, and how to verify what is happening. Apparently the Army is worse than a Baptist church when it comes to rumors! Who would've guessed??

Well, I am going to put dinner in the Crock Pot and get ourselves all cleaned up and ready for the day. (I know it's late, but don't forget the time change!)
